Masonry coatings and sealers are penetrating water repellents or film-forming coatings applied to brick, concrete block and stone to reduce water absorption while allowing vapor to escape. Applied after repointing and repairs, they protect the wall from freeze-thaw damage, efflorescence and staining. Statesville Roofing applies WeatherReady™ masonry sealers across North Carolina.

Brick and block are porous. A hard rain on an unsealed west wall can push gallons of water into the masonry, where it dissolves salts, freezes, and slowly breaks the wall down from the inside.

A breathable silane/siloxane repellent stops liquid water at the surface while letting vapor out. On block buildings, an elastomeric coating bridges hairline cracks and gives a uniform, cleanable finish. Choosing the right product for the substrate is the whole job.

Why owners choose us

What you get with Statesville Roofing

Water absorption cut dramatically

Quality repellents reduce absorption by 90 percent or more on porous masonry.

Breathable protection

Vapor-permeable products prevent trapped moisture that peels film coatings and spalls brick.

Lower maintenance

Sealed walls resist staining, biological growth and efflorescence.

Extends repointing life

Sealing after repointing protects the new mortar and the units around it.

How it works

Our four-step process

The same process behind more than 98,000 service projects since 1989. No surprises, no pressure, everything in writing.

  1. Consultation

Tell us what you are seeing and when you need it handled. A project manager, not a call center, calls you back.

  2. Inspection

We test absorption rates, check for prior sealers, and inspect joints and cracks that must be repaired before coating.

  3. Proposal

The proposal names the product, coverage rate, prep scope and warranty, with pricing by elevation.

  4. Work & Quality Check

Walls are cleaned and repaired, the sealer or coating applied at the specified rate, and a water test confirms performance.

Good to know

Masonry Coating & Sealers questions, answered

How long do masonry sealers last?

Penetrating water repellents typically perform for 7 to 10 years before reapplication. Elastomeric coatings carry 10-year or longer warranties depending on the system.

Will a sealer trap moisture in my wall?

Breathable penetrating repellents do not; they stop liquid water while letting vapor escape. Non-breathable film coatings can trap moisture, which is why product selection matters.

Do I need to repoint before sealing?

If joints are deteriorated, yes. Sealer cannot bridge missing mortar. We repair joints and cracks first, then seal.
